The Art House is an artist co-op in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. It has been mentioned in Southern Living Magazine numerous times, and it draws visitors from all over the United States.

Housed in a small, cozy cottage with a colorful history, it showcases
a wide variety of art, pottery, jewelry and a variety of 3-dimensional art created by award-winning local artists in its seven rooms.
In addition, many artists have note cards and other boutique items for sale.

The Art House features paintings in a variety of mediums (oils, acrylics, watercolor, and mixed media), photography, collages, decorative gourds, wall hangings, hand-crafted jewelry, pottery, wood turning, stained glass, bookmarks, and note cards depicting original art. There are numerous browse bins containing a variety of art at very reasonable prices.

The Art House is a wonderful place to pick up a gift for any special occasion or for your own home. Interior Designers frequent the Art House to look for art for client's homes.

The Gallery consists of seven rooms:
Front Room / Main Room Gallery, Gallery II, Gallery III, Gallery IV, the Boutique Room, the Studio/Kitchen, the Featured Artist Room and the Front Porch Gallery. The rooms are also known by the hand-painted rugs that grace the floors.

Even the Porcelain Powder Room is decorated with art.

Membership

Members of the Art House Co-op must be members of the Ocean Springs Art Association for six months before making application to join the Art House. If there is an opening, a prospective member must submit representative samples of their work to the Standards Committee. If the work is accepted, the new member is invited to join. If they are not selected, they are encouraged to reapply at a later time. Membership fees, which help to pay rent, utilities and publicity costs are assessed three times a year.

Each artist is basically a co-owner in the Art House. Each member works
at least once a month as hostess and artist-in-residence.

You will often find artists at work on the days that they work at the Art House.
New art is rotated every four months, ensuring that new art is displayed throughout the year.
In addition, whenever a piece of art sells, it is replaced with something new.
What you see in these photos may not necessarily be on exhibit when you visit.

Featured Artist Room

The Art House tries to have a featured artist each month.
The artist coordinates an exhibit theme for the Featured Artist Room and hangs the exhibit with their individual personality. When that isn't possible, there are themed exhibits with art from all of the artists. An opening reception, usually wine and cheese, is held early in the month and is open to the public.
Those dates are announced in local newspapers.

Picnic Area and Sculpture Garden

The large backyard, shaded with trees and a huge bamboo cluster, has picnic tables where visitors can bring a bag lunch or have a cool drink and a snack before or after touring the gallery. Tucked here and there are whimsical yard sculptures created from junk or found objects"in the yard and at home by the original artists.

The Sculpture Garden

Betty Magee created "Ode to the Bygone Clothesline" in the back yard and Rita Meadows did "Starry, Starry Night Van Go Go". Vicky Lever Niolet created "Ode to the Palms" as a tribute to the historical Palm Trees in the front. Patt Odom made the pink flamingo and the white swan (seen behind the picnic tables). Judy Macinnis created "The Shiman" (medicine man) that watches over the herb in the front yard. Vicky Niolet created the whimsical box and Ellen Lee created the doll.
