Sandy Ford Creations

Sandy Ford graduated with honors from Ohio University in Athens,Ohio, with a degree in Interior Design. After a successful design business, she decided to become a "sea gypsy". She traveled the world, sailing the high seas.
After spending twelve years sailing around the world with her husband Jim, they settled in Pascagoula, Mississippi.
As a young girl Sandy won an art contest and was offered an art scholarship at the Cleveland Art Institute in Cleveland, Ohio, but circumstances prevented her from accepting it.
Now, years later she is enjoying pursuing her art.
She is a member and past president of Singing River Art Association in Pascagoula, Ms, the Ocean Springs Art Association. Foley Performing Arts Center, Foley, Alabama and International Women of the Arts.
Ford is a featured artist for Special Events at the MGM Mirage Casino, Beau Rivage, Biloxi, Ms.

Ford paints in acrylics, mixed and water media. Her background in interior design and fashion design has had a tremendous influence in her work. She paints to convey a mood or an emotion, using rich tactile sensations and patterns of design. Each painting is treated individually according to what needs to be expressed and therefore doesn't have a set artistic trademark. The common thread that is woven throughout all her work is the use of rich, vibrant colors, patterns of design and their color combinations. Ford says, "I am a colorist at heart. My work is a celebration of paint and brush strokes and color combinations."
She feels that God has given her the creative mind and hands to express what He wants her to paint and she asks Him daily, "What is it you want me to paint today?" For this reason, she feels like so many paintings seem to paint themselves because ideas seem to flow from within.

Ford would like for her art to make people feel good when they explore the many creative and imaginative worlds she has brought to life on paper and canvas. She hopes to delight them and bring smiles and laughter to their lives.
She loves to do commission work. She loves to "get into a person's head" to try to imagine what they want.

In addition to her paintings, she has created sets of note cards and bookmarks that depict her original art.

Book Illustrations

Cover Illustration

Ford was chosen by the book's author to illustrate a children's book that was published in March of 2007.
The book
by Nancy Murray is titled "Gullah, the Nawleans Cat Meets Katrina". The book calls attention to the plight of animals as well as people in the Katrina Flood in New Orleans in 2005. Its colorful illustrations delight children as well as adults. Ford very much enjoyed creating the illustrations for the book,
and has had numerous book signings. A portion of the sale of the book goes to Katrina Relief.
The book illustrations may be viewed and the book purchased on its website.

Ford looks forward to illustrating more books in the future. Her work on this book has made her realize that books are a perfect venue for her creative mind.
