ARTIST STATEMENT

As a young girl, I loved to dance and took many lessons. While being too young to take toe ballet; it was often observed me sliding the plastic drinking glasses on to my feet. Instantly a ballerina was born dancing on her toes; or so it was thought. Later in college classes in modern and jazz were taken.

Today as an artist, I am still dancing to music while painting at the large easel in my studio. There are several elements of design that are important to my art and are used throughout my work. These elements are: direction and movement, balance, color, line and/or brushwork, and a feeling or mood. My heart just sings and jumps a beat when fresh, juicy colors are spread onto my palette ready to begin painting. Applying them in such ways that the colors dance throughout the painting in different combinations. Direction, movement, line and/or brushwork create dancing tension felt by the push-pull effect and the tempos felt while viewing the painting. It seems that the feeling or mood that is most expressed in my paintings is that of joy and happiness.
I love to do commission work, creating "one- of- a- kind" art for someone special. Of course the commission will dictate the type of art technique required.

Currently, my art journey is exploring 2 avenues. Abstract Expressionism or Action Painting. Here the brush strokes themselves create the art, expressing a feeling, movement or rhythm. For me this is a very hard, demanding style of painting and cannot just be slapped on the canvas; much continuous thought is used. The other style is figurative.
