Artist's Statement

Sandra Halat has made art for most of her life in one way or another, not realizing her potential as a "real" artist until 1980 when she returned to college as one of those "late bloomers." She received her Associate Degree in Fine Arts from MGCCC. Moving to North Carolina, Sandra continued her studies at the University of North Carolina. She received both a BFA and an MFA in Drawing, Painting, and Studio Arts. Sandra also studied at San Miguel de Allende Institute of Art in Mexico
Sandra is a well-known and respected local artist. She has won many honors and awards both nationally and locally. When she returned to the Mississippi Gulf Coast in 1999 she won Best in Show for the National Ohr Rising Competition.
Sandra has taught Drawing, Design, and Art Appreciation at the University of North Carolina and High Point University in North Carolina before returning home to the Coast.
