Artist's Statement:

Although I work in the legal profession, I have always been an artist on the inside. I grew up among the swamps and cotton fields of Northeast Louisiana. Pushing my love of art aside to "make a living," I majored in business at Louisiana Tech University, relocated to the Mississippi Gulf Coast in the mid 70s and went into the legal field. In the mid 80s, art reared its lovely head and I began taking night classes. My friend and teacher, Normarie Wigal from Biloxi, was a huge influence on me, introducing me not only to the joys of watercolor and collage but, most importantly, in showing me how to truly see.

Soon thereafter, I picked up a camera and yet another world opened. I took one course in photography, but basically learned the old fashioned way--by taking MANY pictures. I still use film, and my photography collages are all hand made.
I have not yet chosen to join the digital world. I am drawn to abstractions, architecture and objects of vanishing roadside Americana--old motel signs, rusted automobiles, movie theatre marquees … Photography heaven for me would have been a road trip along Route 66 in its heyday!

In recent years I've become intrigued by assemblages and recycled art. I create mirrors with frames to which I painstakingly nail tiny squares of cut-up soda cans, and I create recycled art jewelry from anything that I find interesting--game pieces, aluminum cans, Altoids containers, circuit boards … I love the idea of taking mundane items that one would usually discard and giving them a brand new life. Aside from spending time with my husband and my sweet kitty cat, I derive most of my pleasure in this life from the creation of art.
