Ellen Ellis Lee

Artist Statement

I create one-of a-kind mixed media art dolls using sculptured textiles, ceramic or air drying clay. Additionally, I design an array of ceramic expressions and mixed media wall art. Recently retired from the costume world of Broadway theatre, television, and feature films, I create from my heart with passion, patience and serendipity.

In my world you will enjoy a range of colors, textures, humor, and most importantly fantasy, fun, and smiles. Primarily self-taught, I am inspired by nature, fashion, costumes and love for music and African Art. My work flows with emotion and intuitive drive.

Generally my work is additive. It is multi-colored, multi-textured, lavishly adorned with fabric, beads, re-purposed items, paper, and my ever growing collection of great "stuff." A piece begins with a simple idea or inspiration and days later blossoms into an extraordinary piece of art. It is my hope that you will feel the love that I have poured into each and every piece of my work.

Working in my studio reminds me of my childhood playhouse…
how great is that?!!!
