Biography:

Dr. Gail Cheney

After 44 years as a public school teacher, college professor, school administrator, curriculum developer, writer, and educational consultant, Dr. Gail Cheney returned to her life-long love - ART. Gail taught elementary school in Hattiesburg and Jackson, Mississippi and in Des Plaines, Illinois. After earning her doctorate in education, she taught at the University of Mississippi where she was also Coordinator of Early Childhood. She left her tenured position at Ole Miss to serve as Gifted and Talented and Curriculum Coordinator in the Helena-W. Helena, Arkansas School District. While living in Arkansas, Gail continued college teaching by serving as adjunct professor at Phillips County Community College, the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, Arkansas State University, and the University of Mississippi.

Gail and her husband returned to Mississippi in 1993 where she was Coordinator of Elementary Education at Delta State University until her retirement. After a brief "retirement" which included working as Arts Coordinator for the Greenville Public Schools/Greenville Arts Council, Gail returned to public education for 3 years as Assistant Superintendent for the Cleveland, Mississippi School District. Although she occasionally still serves as an educational consultant, Gail devotes most of her time to art and family. She and her husband and their three pets divide their time between Cleveland and Ocean Springs, Mississippi.

Recent art pursuits include:
  • Board Member of the Ocean Springs Art Association
  • OSAA Annual Fine Art Show
  • Featured Artist at Mocha Moose Coffee Shop in Ocean Springs and Compass Imaging in Gulfport

Since losing a daughter in 2008, painting and pottery have provided Gail with both solace and joy. Proceeds from most of her work goes to a memorial scholarship fund for her daughter at Fairland House in Dublin, Mississippi.
